The 8 milestones that revolutionized digitization

Nowadays, the digitalization is growing more and more, now most of us have a mobile device to communicate and companies are looking to digitalize their processes at an accelerated pace. To achieve this, many inventions and situations were the trigger to make possible its constant evolution. Here are 5 important milestones that marked a before and after in our digital era:

The printing press: For centuries, very few people knew how to read, books were written by hand and information was a privilege. This invention made it possible to transcribe books quickly and by increasing the number of readers, literacy was reduced abruptly. Information was no longer a privilege and was in the hands of everyone!

Cellular: After always being tied to a cable, Martin Cooper made the first telephone call by means of the first hand-held cellular phone, introduced by Motorola. From this, the distance between people decreased and a new social need was born, which is still in force today. Who doesn't have a cell phone today?

Computer/ Laptop In the early 80's, computers were bulky and took up all the space on a desk. The first computer developed was the Epson HX-20, which enabled the flow of information anywhere in the world.

Wifi: This invention was born in response to a need for a wireless connection mechanism, compatible with different devices. Based on this, different companies created the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance to make it a reality. To this day, this technology has been one of the main inventions that has generated a great impact on social change.

Social Networks: Although in 1995, different sites took the form of social networks, it was not until 2004 that it's boom took off. All of this since  the creation of Facebook and later, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, Snapchat and Tiktok. Today, according to a report by Global Digital, there are approximately 4.7 billion active users on these networks. Not having any social media today is like if you doesn't exist!

The cloud: Also known as "Cloud computing", since it's creation, allowed access to the same files from any device. In addition to making data more accessible and secure.

Artificial Intelligence: This term refers to all those machines that mimic human intelligence to perform tasks. Therefore, it has been a constant evolution of new technologies. One of it's main effects has been the improvement of living conditions, in addition to reducing inequality and poverty..

Covid-19: Despite not being an object or a technological novelty, the pandemic was an accelerator of digital transformation. From the isolation, different companies realized that they did not have enough digital tools. This led them to adopt new business models, with intelligent networks and automated processes. Without a doubt, the pandemic took us all by surprise!

We know that these milestones and technological advances do not cover all those that changed the course of technology in history. However, they were some of the most important ones that led to the digital world we know today.
